Direct Service Opportunities

Serve our hungry neighbors directly by volunteering at one of our programs below.

Winnebago Community Market – Northwest (Rockford) Center

In order to better serve our hungry neighbors, the Food Bank started a pop-up pantry based out of our Northwest Center in Rockford in 2017. The program grew as word spread, and now averages about 300 families every week.

Each Market needs approximately 15-25 volunteers in order to serve our neighbors most effectively. Available volunteer roles include assisting in registration, handing out food, restocking the food carts, and managing the carts as clients move to and from their cars. Volunteers may sign up as an individual or with a group, and should be able to lift up to 30 pounds.

Groups and individuals may register online through our volunteer calendar, or by contacting Molly Speckman – email or call 630-443-6910 ext 211. Please call to register groups of 10 or more volunteers.

My Pantry Express

Visiting a food pantry is not always an option, whether due to schedules, transportation, or other reasons. You can help us ease the burden by supporting our pilot program My Pantry Express – an online source for groceries when in need. Volunteers are needed to help fill grocery orders, distribute orders to neighbors at designated pick-up locations, and more!

For more detailed information about our pilot program and the volunteer experience, watch the Volunteer Training Video (~15 mins).

Please contact Molly Speckman to schedule volunteer shifts.

Current grocery distribution volunteer shifts:

Mobile Pantry

Mobile PantryThe Mobile Pantry is a “traveling food pantry” that delivers meat, produce, non-perishable food and other products to communities where the need for food surpasses the capacity of existing food pantry resources. Volunteers at the Mobile Pantry assist in distributing food to our hungry neighbors.

View our online calendar to sign up to volunteer for specific dates and locations. Choose “Mobile Pantry” in the dropdown menu next to Opportunity Type to see available distributions in which volunteers are needed. Contact a Volunteer Coordinator to learn more – email or call 630-443-6910.
