Hey there! And welcome to the super-secret home of your Northern Illinois Food Bank Philanthropy Toolkit. Bookmark it now so you never lose it!

This is a private place for all our best Food Bank friends to learn more about how they can best join the fight against hunger. So, make sure you only share it with those that you know really love us, and our work!

Now, before we get into this… What the is “philanthropy”? And… Why do you need a “toolkit”?

Not quite. Although, we never say “no” to a check, no matter how ridiculously big it may be…

At Northern Illinois Food Bank, we believe everyone who is fighting against hunger to be a key part of our philanthropic efforts, whether you are:

  • Packing groceries as one of our essential volunteers
  • Raising awareness by posting about our work on social media
  • Donating food to a local pantry
  • Advocating for change as a board member
  • Giving a monthly gift as part of our Serving Hope group

It doesn’t matter. No matter HOW you are fighting hunger, you are a part of our extended philanthropy team!

We want to make sure that everyone on our extended philanthropy team feels confident and comfortable in representing Northern Illinois Food Bank!

So, we’ve compiled a list of resources here for you to use to help you even more effectively communicate about the Food Bank’s work.

You’ve got friends! And if you don’t… why not? You’re great, and people should get to know you.

If your friends are anything like ours, they’ve likely asked you at least once or twice about the Food Bank, and why you love it so much.

And to be honest, sometimes when we’re put on the spot like that, our mind goes blank and we start drooling…

That’s why it is important to understand how to tell a great Food Bank story, so you can be prepared for these moments!

We throw several awesome events to benefit the Food Bank every year; but what if they’re not the vibe for you and your friends?

Well, throw your own party for the Food Bank instead!

Whether it’s hosting a dinner party or inviting people over for a casual game night – you have a blank canvas for creating an experience that will spread the mission of the Food Bank and be fun for all your pals.

We’ve compiled a list of pointers for you here that will help guide you to hosting your dream Food Bank evening!

How many neighbors do we serve in a month?

How many meals did we help provide in our last fiscal year?

How many food pantries are in our network?

Keeping track of all these fast but important facts is hard! So we’ve put them all together in this one document. We bet you can’t wait to impress your friends at lunchtime!
