Nearly 4,000 Ameriprise volunteers will prepare meals for people struggling with hunger; Company also pledges $1.4 million in grants to nonprofits
MINNEAPOLIS – (June 15, 2017) – On June 16, nearly 4,000 Ameriprise Financial, Inc. (NYSE: AMP) employees, advisors and clients will come together to provide food for people in need. Working at more than 200 hunger-relief events across the country, the volunteers will package and prepare meals to help the 1 in 8 Americans who struggle with hunger every day. The events are the first of two nationwide service days Ameriprise organizes in partnership with Feeding America®, each year, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to help ensure hungry families and individuals have access to food.
“Hunger has no boundaries. Working families, senior citizens, children and individuals in both rural and urban areas can quickly become victims of hunger,” said Brian Pietsch, head of community relations at Ameriprise. “The summer can be especially challenging for children who rely on school meal programs throughout the year. Our nationwide volunteer effort will bring together thousands of people to help fill the gap so many families face during the summer months.”
Ameriprise awards more than $1.4 million in grants to nonprofits
In conjunction with its national event, Ameriprise announces the donation of more than $1.4 million in grants to 79 nonprofits. To make a meaningful difference in local communities, Ameriprise gives grants that help people meet their most basic needs, create vibrant communities and engage our volunteers. Many of the nonprofits also benefit from the deep commitment Ameriprise advisors and employees offer through volunteerism, board service and donations.
Recent grant recipients include:
• Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva, Ill.
Northern Illinois Food Bank provides more than 62.5 million meals a year to those struggling with hunger across its 13-county service area of Northern Illinois. Over the past seven years, 940 volunteers from 15 different Ameriprise offices have donated more than 2,500 hours at the Food Bank’s West Suburban, Northwest and North Suburban Centers. This month, the Food Bank named Ameriprise Financial the 2017 Corporate Volunteer Group of the Year. Northern Illinois Food Bank is a member of Feeding America.
• A New Leaf in Mesa, Ariz.
A New Leaf is a 46-year-old community nonprofit whose mission is to help those in crisis. Annually, they serve over 22,000 men, women and children suffering from domestic violence and homelessness through a continuum of shelter, supportive housing and self-sufficiency programming. The recent grant from Ameriprise will provide general operating support to help meet the needs of domestic violence, homelessness and poverty.
• The Children’s Museum in Portland, Ore.
The Children’s Museum in Portland, Ore., creates a transformative learning experiences through the arts and sciences. With its Access for All program, the museum provides anyone on public assistance with $1 daily admission. Support from Ameriprise will help the museum host more than 48,000 people in need, including children with disabilities through this program.
