OrthoIllinois’ annual employee giving campaign for Northern Illinois Food Bank raises nearly $39,000

(ROCKFORD, Ill., February 5, 2020) – The staff, physicians and business partners of OrthoIllinois are excited to announce the results of its annual holiday giving campaign. The organization raised $38,425—totaling more than $307,000 in groceries—for Northern Illinois Food Bank’s child nutrition programs.

The donation will help provide nutritious meals for children not only in Winnebago County, but for children in need throughout McHenry and Kane Counties as well. Child nutrition programs through the Food Bank programs provide meals after school, on weekends and during the summer break—times when children are at an increased risk for hunger.

“This is always a special donation for us at the Food Bank,” said Jeannine Kannegiesser, Development Officer for Corporations and Foundations at Northern Illinois Food Bank. “Every child deserves to have the nutritious food they need to grow and learn every day, and thanks to the continued support of organizations like OrthoIllinois, we can continue our mission of making sure that becomes a reality for kids across Northern Illinois.”

Since 2004, OrthoIllinois has donated nearly $470,000 in support of the Food Bank. Food Bank and OrthoIllinois representatives will hold a check presentation ceremony at Patriot’s Gateway Community Center in Rockford this Thursday, February 6 at 3:30pm.

Last year, Northern Illinois Food Bank distributed more than 1.6 million meals to children in need. In Winnebago County alone, the Food Bank provides after-school meals and snacks for more than 2,000 children every day through 41 after-school programs, and provides nearly 1,200 backpacks of nutritous food each month to children in need through its BackPack Program, which aims to ensure children and up to two family members have enough food for the weekend. The Food Bank also has a network of more than 122 food pantries in Winnebago County to provide food to those in need.

“It is always inspiring to see our staff, physicians, and business partners come together during the holiday season to rally around this wonderful cause of feeding children in need right here in our own communities,” said Don Schreiner, CEO of OrthoIllinois. “We continue to support the Food Bank and its mission year after year because we are always impressed with not only their ability to get food to children who need it most, but their ability to help us ensure our dollars have the greatest impact possible. This campaign is a highlight for our team every year.”
