(SYCAMORE, Ill. – December 23, 2019) – Hy-Vee, Inc. partnered with Pipestone for its third annual “Give a Helping Ham” campaign at the Sycamore Hy-Vee.
For each ham purchased at the Sycamore Hy-Vee from Nov. 18-27, Pipestone donated a pound of pork loin to Northern Illinois Food Bank in December. The Food Bank serves 13 counties of Northern Illinois, including DeKalb County where the Sycamore Hy-Vee is located.
In conjunction with the Pipestone holiday promotion, for every Hormel Cure 81 whole boneless ham purchased from Nov. 1-30 at Hy-Vee locations, customers received a free Honeysuckle white frozen turkey (select varieties 10-14 lbs.).
Pipestone, a veterinary service and pig management company located in Pipestone, Minnesota, works with independent pig farmers across the Midwest and introduced the “Give a Helping Ham” initiative in 2017. The first two years of the campaign resulted in 205,000 pounds of pork that were donated to food banks throughout the Midwest.
“Protein continues to remain on the needs list for food banks serving food insecure families in our communities,” stated Dr. Luke Minion, CEO of Pipestone. “If you are shopping for your holiday meal, we encourage you to Give a Helping Ham by shopping at a participating grocery store, or donating online at GiveAHelpingHam.com.”
“We are grateful for the Give a Helping Ham project, and for our partnership with Hy-Vee and Pipestone,” said Jennifer Nau, Director of Communications at Northern Illinois Food Bank. “These donations are making a real difference in the lives of our neighbors in need right here in Northern Illinois, especially during the holidays.”
