Company continues longstanding support of child nutrition programs in Winnebago County
ROCKFORD, Ill., JANUARY 30, 2017 – Staff, physicians and business partners of OrthoIllinois raised $35,890 for Northern Illinois Food Bank during its annual holiday celebration, marking the company’s 14th year supporting Northern Illinois Food Bank’s child nutrition programming in Winnebago County. Since its first donation in 2004, OrthoIllinois (formerly Rockford Orthopedic Associates) has raised more than $356,000 for the Food Bank through this initiative.
“We are so grateful for the continued dedication of the OrthoIllinois doctors, staff, and vendors who contributed to this donation,” said Hester Bury, Director of Corporate and Foundation Giving at Northern Illinois Food Bank, who accepted this year’s donation on Friday at Patriot’s Gateway Community Center in Rockford. “This generous donation will greatly impact the lives of the more than 1 in 5 children still facing hunger in this area.”
The Food Bank provides after-school meals and snacks for a daily average of 3,188 children in Winnebago County through 37 after-school programs. Additionally, the Food Bank’s BackPack Program, which partners with 25 schools across the county, provides 233 backpacks of food each month to children in need filled with enough food to feed themselves and up to two additional family members for the weekend. In total, the Food Bank supports more than 120 food pantries and feeding programs in Winnebago County to provide food to those in need.
“We feel supporting these vital nutrition programs is one of the most effective ways to help build a stronger future for our community,” said Don Schreiner, CEO of OrthoIllinois. “Providing meals not only enables the children to do better in school, but it contributes toward better health and quality of life as these young lives are being molded to become future leaders and community members.”
