(ROCKFORD, Ill., JANUARY 22, 2019) – Now in its 15th year, the staff, physicians and business partners of OrthoIllinois continued its annual employee giving campaign over the holidays, and are happy to announce this year’s total of $38,875—the equivalent of $311,000 in groceries—for Northern Illinois Food Bank. Since its first donation in 2004, OrthoIllinois (formerly Rockford Orthopedic Associates) has raised $431,397 for the Food Bank’s child nutrition programs.
“We’re thrilled to kick off 2019 with such a wonderful donation from a longtime supporter like OrthoIllinois,” said Andrew Palmer, Development Officer of Peer-to-Peer & Cause Marketing at Northern Illinois Food Bank, who will accept this year’s donation from OrthoIllinois CEO Don Schreiner at Patriot’s Gateway Community Center in Rockford on Thursday, January 24 at 3:30pm.
“These funds will not only continue to support child nutrition programs right here in Winnebago County where more than 18 percent of children face hunger every day, but we’re excited that these funds will also support child nutrition programs in McHenry and Kane counties as well.”
The Food Bank provides after-school meals and snacks for more than 1,400 children every day in Winnebago County through 38 after-school programs, and provides more than 1,200 backpacks of nutritous food each month to children in need through its BackPack Program, which aims to ensure children and up to two family members have enough food for the weekend. In total, the Food Bank supports more than 122 food pantries and feeding programs in Winnebago County to provide food to those in need.
“It’s easy to get caught up in our individual worlds of planning, gift-buying, and entertaining during the holidays, so I’m proud of our staff, physicians, and business partners that remain committed to dedicating our annual company party to not just fun and celebration, but to wholeheartedly raising money to help children in our own communities that are experiencing hunger needs,” said Don Schreiner, CEO of OrthoIllinois. “Northern Illinois Food Bank has been recognized nationally for its efficient implementation of food distribution programs and fiscal stewardship of donations received, and after 15 years of fundraising to support the Food Bank’s afterschool and weekend backpack programs, we continue to be impressed with how the money we raise is maximized to serve so many children.”
