Remembering our veterans

09/Nov/18 / 20:42

As an Army veteran, Donald was trained to face war. When we met him at Open Arms Mission in Antioch, he was no longer active-duty military, but was engaged in a different kind of war – with hunger. Like so many others in Northern Illinois and throughout the United States, accessing enough healthy and nutritious food can be a struggle for Donald.

It’s staggering to learn that twenty percent of households that are supported by the Feeding America network have a veteran or someone that served in the military.

Whether you’re young, old, man, woman, civilian or military, we believe that no one should be hungry. For Donald, receiving a Holiday Meal Box helped him plan for a happy holiday season.

“Thank you for giving,” Donald said after loading his holiday Meal Box into his car. “It means a lot.”
