Every September, we join food banks across the country in Hunger Action Month (HAM) – a national initiative, established by Feeding America, designed to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger. With the help of the caring members of our communities, we’re raising awareness for those who struggle with hunger and food insecurity – those who don’t know where their next meal will come from.
Hunger is an overlooked issue in our communities. Our neighbors who face hunger, struggling to make ends meet and to provide consistent and healthy meals for themselves and their families, are just that – our neighbors. The face of hunger looks like the face of a soccer mom, a skilled worker, an elderly neighbor who found themselves in a place of need after life took an unexpected turn.
The Food Bank works to not only provide nearly 66 million meals every year, but also to raise awareness in the community – to unite volunteers, donors, and advocates in a shared mission to solve hunger in Northern Illinois. We need your help and support in to ensure every person – children, families, seniors, veterans, men and women – has access to nutritious food for every meal each day.
Join us in taking action this September! Attend an event, learn about hunger in our community, and be assured that what you do matters. Your support makes a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors in need. To get started, visit our Hunger Action Month page for ways you can get involved and to view a full list of events happening this September, including:
