Building a strong, healthy community is important – especially during difficult times. As the COVID-19 pandemic and food insecurity continue to impact so many of us , we know that we can only get through these tough times together.
That’s why Mark, a volunteer at Northern Illinois Food Bank’s Winnebago Community Market, is so grateful he can donate his time to help his neighbors.
“It’s nice to get out and give back to the community,” says Mark. “And especially now, with everybody really hurting … we’ve seen the increase in the past year with people need food.”
Mark, who has volunteered with the Food Bank for over a year now, has fortunately remained well during the pandemic. But he knows what it’s like to need a little help sometimes, and is glad to be able to volunteer with the Food Bank.
“I’ve gotten [food] in the past, so I want to come back and do what I can to help,” says Mark.
The Food Bank could not do what we do without the generous help of volunteers like Mark. Especially during these difficult times, we rely on our community to come together and help make sure everyone has access to the food they need.
“If you can donate your time, your money, whatever – we can always use that,” says Mark. “Just get out here and help – it’s a great feeling!”
