The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our community in many ways. From food insecurity to job loss, we know that these are tough times for our neighbors.
We met Abraham, a hardworking father of four, at a Pop-Up Market in his hometown of Elgin. For the past few months, he has been unable to work his typical full-time schedule, which has caused financial strain for his family.
“I’m not working every day, so I could use a little bit of help,” Abraham says, sharing that this is his first visit to a food bank or pantry.
Thanks to the Pop-Up Market, he can bring home boxes of fresh produce, protein, dairy, and more – all groceries that will be able to help keep his family hunger-free throughout the week.
With the uncertainty of when work will return to normal, he is grateful for the extra assistance.
“I would like to say thank you and God bless. I appreciate everything [the Food Bank] is doing,” Abraham says.
If you or someone you know could use a little extra help during this time, we invite you to check out our calendar to find a Pop-Up Market in a community near you.
