You Matter to Us: Team Terrific Tuesday

20/May/16 / 15:23

In this post we feature Team Terrific Tuesday, a stalwart volunteer group that donates its time every Tuesday at Northern Illinois Food Bank’s North Suburban Center in Park City. These dedicated individuals became friends while helping feed hungry neighbors. Longtime group member Jack Powell recently got the team together to answer our questions!

  1. How did the name Team Terrific Tuesday come about?

The same people kept showing up week after week, working hard and showing continued dedication so Tom Hong, Northern Illinois Food Bank retail relations liaison, gave it to us.

  1. What is the best project the team has been given?

For us, the best thing we do each year is always working on the annual Holiday Meal Box project.

  1. Why is the continued support of Northern Illinois Food Bank important to the team?

Otherwise Betty (longtime member of the group) wouldn’t have any friends. It’s actually because we as a team are helping so many people in our area have a meal when they need it.

  1. What are the top three memories the team has in volunteering?

That’s easy. 1. Finding actual bananas in the banana boxes. 2. Bagging sweet potatoes. 3. Sorting and labeling venison.

How You Can Help:

  • Volunteer at one of our Centers in Geneva, Rockford or Park City sorting and packing food
  • Look at available Skills-Based Volunteer projects and fill out an interest form to be matched.
  • Volunteers are still needed for our Foodie 5K – lend your time at this fun run/walk with post-race festival with gourmet food trucks and more.
