Hunger Scramble – sunny with a chance of golf balls

08/Sep/17 / 06:00

This year was our biggest and best Hunger Scramble yet! We had an outstanding sell-out crowd of 205 golfers join us on August 22 at Cantigny Golf Club. Although it was overcast early in the morning, the weather ended up being perfect for a round of golf benefiting Northern Illinois Food Bank.
This year, participants had the opportunity to compete in Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive competitions, as well as the chance to win a brand new Subaru by hitting a hole-in-one! Throughout the course, golfers enjoyed tastings from Penrose Brewing Company, Anyways Bar and Grill, and ACE Bakery. Johnsonville and Alpha Baking generously donated flavorful brats for the golfers’ lunch. And a special thank you to West Suburban Bank, our presenting sponsor. Without their support this event would not be possible.

The ‘19th Hole Reception’

After the last putt on the 18th green, the fun continued at the 19th Hole Reception. The entire clubhouse was buzzing with excitement – the golfers were so grateful for their golfer gift and a morning of fun, no matter how well they played.
In support of the Food Bank and the communities we serve, golfers bid on silent auctions items, bought raffle tickets, and participated in our brand new raffle game – the 100 Yard Dash! Thanks to the golfers who embraced the fun game, which in its first year resulted in an impressive $818, or $6544 worth of groceries for our hungry neighbors!

A day of fun for an important cause

The generosity of our supporters never fails to inspire. As the event grows each year, so does the impact it has on the mission of Northern Illinois Food Bank – to ensure our neighbors have every meal, when they need it, where they live. This year’s Hunger Scramble raised nearly $108,000, which the Food Bank can use to provide $864,000 worth of groceries to our neighbors in need.
This event is expected to sell out again next year – if you’re interested in joining in the fun for an important cause, we encourage you to reserve your spot early. You won’t want to miss it – next year will only be better! Contact Kate Thomas for more information – email or call 630-443-6910 ext. 117
