Helping our veterans this holiday season

Bob has lived in Lombard all of his life, except for the time he spent serving his country in Vietnam. He and his wife Marlene have been married 53 years, and together have three children and seven grandchildren.
Retired from working in steel inventory control, Bob shares that Thanksgiving is a treasured time for his family. They often enjoy reminiscing about years past around a table full of holiday favorites – made possible thanks to the Holiday Meal Box he gets from York Township Food Pantry.
“Without this place, I’d be in deep [trouble],” he says. “They’re kind, helpful and so nice. They’re so loving.”
This is the second year in a row Bob has taken home a Holiday Meal Box, and he also visits the pantry at other times during the year when his and Marlene’s income just isn’t enough to keep their kitchen stocked with nutritious groceries.
Bob also shares how much he appreciates the support he and his family have received.
“God bless you,” he says to the generous community members who help keep the pantry’s shelves full. “Thank you very much. It helps those in dire need.”
Thank you for making this holiday season so much brighter and healthier for thousands of neighbors, including veterans like Bob. With your help, York Township Food Pantry and other Food Bank member agencies and programs are changing lives across Northern Illinois.
Donate now to ensure none of our neighbors – men, women, seniors, children, veterans and more – miss a meal this holiday season.
