3 ways to take action this Hunger Action Month

30/Aug/19 / 06:00

Hunger is an overlooked but very real issue in our communities. You want to help, but may not know how to make the biggest difference in the lives of local families struggling with hunger.
Here are three ways you can take action this Hunger Action Month:

Volunteer Pack-A-Thons

Help us pack over 150,000 lbs of food for our neighbors in need! During your volunteer shift, you will inspect and package fresh produce while enjoying music, answering trivia questions for prizes, and participating in fun raffles!
Volunteer shifts include 7:00-9:00am, 9:30-11:30am, 12:30-2:30pm, and 3:00-5:00pm

  • September 13 at the South Suburban Center (171 South Larkin Avenue / Joliet)
  • September 20 at the North Suburban Center (440 Keller Drive / Park City)
  • September 27 at the Northwest Center (765 Research Parkway / Rockford)

Register online or contact our Volunteer Team – email or call 630-443-6910.

Winnebago Community Market Open House

Join us on Wednesday September 18 from 4:30 – 6:30pm to celebrate the public “grand opening” of our permanent food pantry space inside our Rockford Center!
Come tour the space, and learn how the Winnebago Community Market has served more than one million meals in the past year to neighbors in our community!
Please RSVP by Friday, September 13 at WCMOpenHouse.eventbrite.com

Pass the Plate

This is one delicious way to get involved with Hunger Action Month! Visit a participating restaurant and ask your server how they are “Passing the Plate” this September so you can join us in solving hunger.
View a list of participating restaurants across Northern Illinois on our website.
Every volunteer, every donation, every meal counts as we work together to solve hunger. Learn more and get involved at SolveHungerToday.org/HAM.

How You Can Help:

  • Volunteer at one of our Centers in Geneva, Rockford or Park City sorting and packing food
  • Donate to help us solve hunger in your community – every $1 donated helps provide $8 of groceries.
