What is Hunger Action Month?

Hunger Action Month is a nationwide initiative developed by Feeding America to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger and join the movement to help solve hunger. Every September, Northern Illinois Food Bank, along with a number of our community and agency partners, go out into our communities to raise awareness of the problem of hunger and ask our neighbors to help us make sure that no one in Northern Illinois is hungry!

How can you take action this September?

Any action – big or small- can help us solve hunger!

Some ways you can make a difference are:

Host a food and fund drive!

Work with your local community organizations, businesses, and schools to collect food and funds to help your hungry neighbors. Every $1 donated provides $8 worth of food!

  • Join our Neighbors Feeding Neighbors online food and fund drive and help us provide $200,000 worth of food this September. Contact Kate Thomas at (630) 443-6910 ext. 117 with any questions!

Dedicate your social media to the cause
  • Follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
  • Post about hunger and the need in your area. If people don’t realize there is a problem, then they won’t know they need to take action to fix it! (Be sure to use the hashtag #ILHungerAction)
Show your support by attending a Hunger Action Month event in your community!

Northern Illinois Food bank and many of our partners are holding awareness and fundraising events all month long!
Check out our Hunger Action Month Event Calendar and find one near you!

If you want to host your own event – let us know! Fill out our Hunger Action Month event form so we can get your event on our calendar!
