Getting Food To People in Need

Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) distributes food to hungry people through a charitable network of more than 600 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, group homes and other food assistance sites. NIFB is the single most important source of food for our partner feeding programs accounting for 70% of all food provided to feed hungry people directly.

Each weekday morning at 6:00 a.m. pre-ordered cases of nutritious food items such as cereals, pasta, rice, canned fruits, vegetables, soup, meals, frozen meats and fresh produce, are loaded onto refrigerated trucks for direct delivery to emergency feeding sites throughout our 13 county service area. Last fiscal year, 34.8 million pounds of food was delivered benefiting the more than 61,000 different people each week who asked for help.
