Northwest Center Volunteer Shifts:  
Weekdays:
• Tuesday and Thursdays: 9 - 11:30am, 1 - 3:30pm

Weekends:
• Saturday: 9am - 11:30am


 

During all shifts volunteers 8 years of age and older are welcome to help. An adult needs to accompany anyone under the age of 16, and we ask for at least one adult for every four youth. Want to start volunteering? Click here to find out how get started.

Group Opportunities:
The Northwest Center of Northern Illinois Food Bank can accommodate individual volunteers and groups of up to 40 people. Groups of 15 or more are able to join one of our regular shifts or may be able to schedule an alternate day or time. So that we do not overbook and we make the most efficient use of your time and energy, all groups must schedule their visit in advance. Want to start volunteering? Food Sort and Repack:
Volunteers are needed to work in our warehouse on a variety of projects, including sorting, evaluating, cleaning, and packaging donated food and non-food product prior to distribution. There is some lifting required and all positions require volunteers to stand on concrete floors.Want to start volunteering? Click here to find out how get started.

Office and Clerical Support:
General office assistance is needed during business hours Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm as well as on Saturday mornings during food sort and repack volunteer shifts. Training is provided and schedules are flexible. Some duties include: filing, greeting volunteers and visitors, answering the phone, preparing mailings, assembling materials, online research, etc.  Want to start volunteering? Click here to find out how get started.

Special Events:
Northern Illinois Food Bank is involved with a variety of community and special events at locations throughout our 13-county service area from fundraisers to volunteer fairs. Educational Programs:
Are you a teacher interested in doing a volunteer project and educating your students on issues related to hunger and community nutrition? Come and spend time volunteering in our warehouse. In addition to a 2-3 hour volunteer session, your students can participate in educational programming related to hunger, nutrition, and poverty. Want to start volunteering?
